It is essential to learn and familiarize major scales to be able to form chords easily. Keep it in mind that these scales have only 8 notes. Take a closer look at the sample illustrations below and see what set of notes comprises these scales in different keys as these will definitely guide you how to form and play guitar chord:
Examine each scales, what do you notice? The first note and the last are the same but the latter is higher. Thus, notes #1 and #8 are the same. After the 7th note, the list just returns to the 1st note but only an octave higher. Then they are named 9th, 10th, 11th, and so on. The illustration below shows the ordinal number of notes to see what corresponding spot are they in the higher octave:
Furthermore, if I refer to the 9th note then I'm also pertaining to the 2nd note. Same principle applies to others.
